All about AFCAT exam !

AFCAT that is Air Force Common Admission online test is one of the most prestigious exam conducted in nation . This exam helps candidate to boost his capabilities and potential in Air force  Sector. It helps candidate to pursue his desirable profession  inAir force . It gives candidate dignity , pride and an emotional satisfaction of serving his / her country . Its been conducted by Indian Air Force for both Ground duty officers and flying branch . For both sectors it has technical and non technicalduties .lets discuss about it in more details .

AFCAT is conducted twice in a year basically in the month of February and August . Forms are released in month of June and December . Indian Air force invites candidate to serve nation by applying for this exam as Group A Gazetted officer in flying branch and ground duty post (Technical and non technical duties ) . Now lets see about the branch and its details :

Branch in Air force

Air Force basically divides recruitment process into two branch : –

  1. Flying Branch
  2. Ground duty branch .( Technical and non technical )

For Ground duty technical branch comes to :

  • Aeronautical Engineer
  • Electronics andAeronautical Engineer
  • MechanicalEngineer

For Ground duty non – technical branch comes to :

  • Administration,
  • Logistics
  • Accounts

Eligibility critera for applying to afcat2 :

  1. Nationality :Candidate needs to be a citizen of India in order to take part in recruiting procedure of air force .
  2. Age :
  • Flying Branch through AFCAT and NCC Special Entry should be 20 to 24 yearsof age .i.e. born between 02 January 1995 to 01 January 2000 .Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA  of  India  is relaxableupto 26 years .
  • Ground Duty(Technical& Non-Technical ) Branch: 20 to 26 years .

Educational Qualification for AFCAT Exam:

Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 60% marks each in Math and Physics at 12th level and –

(i) Graduation with

Minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.


(b) BE/B Tech degree from a recognised University with

minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.


(c) Candidates who have passed Section the examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University, with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.

2. Ground Duty (Technical) Branch. Candidates with a

min of 60% marks  in each Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a min of 4 years degree graduation/ integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognized University


passed Section A & B the examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership

examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a min of 60% marks .

Candidates with a

passed Section A & B the examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a

minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines:-

3.     Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

4.      Mechanical Engineering.

5.     Mechanical Engineering and Automation.

6.     Mechanical Engineering (Production).

7.      Mechanical Engineering (Repair and Maintenance).

8.     Mechatronics.

9.     Industrial Engineering

3. Ground Duty (NonTechnical) Branch . Administration& Logistics

Graduate Degree (Minimum 3 yrsdegree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum

of 60% marks or equivalent or passed Section A & B the examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks.


B.Com Degree (Min 3 years of degree course)

from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Apply online for afcat 2 exam : 

In order to get into the process candidate needs to apply online . Official website of air force is . Candidate has to opt for option as new candidate and then sign up .candidate need to have adhar card with them as it’s the compulsory document . Other website is . Candidate needs to mention their e-mail id ad login id and as per needed .

Personal information :

When they enter in the application form .several data needs to be filled as first option comes to Personal information . Candidate needs to enter their name , parents address , email id , correspondence address , mobile number etc . and need to save .

Qualification details:

Further can move on to second page of Qualification details .here candidate needs to mention their graduation details . Also needs to decide for which branch they are applying  , whether for flying branch or for ground duty ( Technical or non technical branch )  . if candidate is an engineer he can apply for technical branch and hence has to give  EKT exam along with AFCAT common paper .

Upload documents :

Candidate needs to upload all the relevant documents while applying for afcat 2 exam .candidate needs to upload scanned recent photograph ,  scanned signature etc . Documents needs to be clear otherwise form can get rejected .

Exam city :

Candidate needs to give preference for which city they want to appear for exam . Accordingly venue and time slot is allotted .for common afcat paper all branches have same morning or noon slot for the day whereas for candidates participating for technical branch need to give EKT exam on the same day . once preference is selected , it cannot be altered , so candidate needs to take special care of their preference because change in center is not entertained later .

Travel allowances :

Candidates appearing for the first time for SSB exam are given TA for to and fro journey .it can be railway fare / bus ticket . TA is provided only to candidate appearing for first time . No candidate is provided with TA if appeared for same exam before .
