Ram Nath Kovind presented the International Gandhi Awards for Leprosy on 6th  February 2020. Government has taken and accomplished several levels of leprosy elimination measures as defined as less than 1 case per ten thousand population of the country. Simultaneously, the stigma and prejudice as set against leprosy have been reduced to an extent through the vital efforts taken by scientists, researchers, organizations and community workers in the country. It needs to be considered that the new cases of leprosy continues to take place and also high burden pockets of the disease are available. The Indian government is now taking some more measures to intensify and simplify the efforts taken towards early detection of such leprosy cases provided equitable access to appropriate treatment and also to provide integrated leprosy services in the designed geographically focused areas. It is also been creating awareness among people and has also helped to educate people on this disease and its different perspectives Central government had also planned to empower these leprosy cases who have been discriminated against on account of leprosy through advocacy and information dissemination in the country.According to World Health Organization – WHO around 200,000 leprosy cases were been reported and detected globally and thus India accounts for more than 50 % of leprosy case every year. In the year 2005, Leprosy was declared as eradicated disease in India. Brazil and Indonesia and India has reported the highest number of new leprosy cases in the world
